It's only week three of the new semester but work is already piling up. I thought it would be nice to take some time off, and was reminded of a challenge that my friend shared.
Perhaps it is best to write about books I have read but haven't written about, and this is one of them.
Five facts about this book that I believe would make anyone excited to read it;
1. It is possible to finish this in 1 to 2 hours, so it's perfect for leisure reading before bed. We won't have to worry about staying up too late, nor about waiting for its ending.
2. The language used in the writing of this book, as in all other books by Buya Hamka, is very beautiful. They easily touch our hearts, and soothingly convey messages - the pleasant ones, and the bitter truths.
3. The book is of love, but more than just romantic love. It's about parental love, love for the greater good, forgiveness, and justice.
4. The book gives us a glimpse of how the world in the older days treated women, especially when they don't have the support and care of a loving husband. It's almost like it's a fault, which is unfortunate. This part of the story can help us reassess how the situation is today.
5. There are parts in the story set in court, whereby a young, good-natured prosecutor defends an old accused person — which really reminds us of the true idea of criminal justice. An amazing read for law students in particular, but I believe everyone will appreciate the part.
I'll give a check for language, plot, message, length, and value for myself, and rate this book 5/5.
A very good read, will find time to read again.
Post re-publication note: Ah, this writing is so unlike me. This was for a random book facts challenge I participated in with my friends, hence the simplicity and the sudden facts. But the book is one of my favourites of all time!
